gmp Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners is an international architects practice. Since the formation of the practice in 1965 by Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg, three additional partners, one partner for China, and eleven associated partners have joined. With over 500 members of staff distributed across eleven offices, gmp is active in Germany and abroad. Over 50 years, numerous buildings have been created around the world; gmp has a worldwide reputation for sustainable, logical architecture that seeks a dialogue with the respective location. The practice’s architectural approach is characterized by the Vitruvian criteria of durability, functionality, and beauty. Architecture can justifiably be called sustainable in the sense of durable when it takes into account climatic conditions, uses appropriate materials, and provides a building envelope that accommodates the complexity of human living in as natural a way as possible. In national and international competitions gmp has won over 380 first prizes and numerous awards for exemplary architecture. To date, almost 500 projects have been completed worldwide. www.gmp.de
